Random thoughts.

It’s been a while since I posted and  I don’t know why I am today except it’s Family Day in Canada so I have a day off which feels weird and I’m getting back in the writing groove. It’s been a while and I don’t know if I can do it any more and I know there won’t be any pay off and if you broke it down by hourly wage I’d owe the universe but I’m hoping I find satisfaction into disappearing into a fictional world coz god knows the real one sucks a lot of the time. Not personally but politically.

So, random thoughts.

Just finished Louise Penny’s series of mystery novels. We have a few things in common-ex-radio types, Canadian, female. And that’s it.

She’s a good writer but I really preferred when she didn’t try to shoehorn history into her novels like Gerald Bull or the Dionne quintuplets. Too many data dumps for me. Fun fact- when I was growing up, Bull’s brother lived across the street from us. It wasn’t until decades later that the whole story of the super gun came to light.

Watched Bohemian Rhapsody. Never watch a musical biopic with a music geek- he was pissed about fictional timelines and factual errors. I was pissed at the atrocious writing. Everyone was a sketch and tell me two things about the other members of Queen. I’ll wait. Nada. Crickets.

And the “monologue” when Freddie tells his bandmates he has AIDs- didn’t happen before LiveAid because he hadn’t been diagnosed then and was so badly written that you hope it never happened to anyone anytime.

Roma- Good movie if you wanted one that was set in the 70s but why would you revisit that and bring nothing new to the table? Nothing. It’s like when re-did the silents in The Artist. Why not just watch a silent movie? I hate when talent is wasted this way and nothing is re-interpreted.

I won’t enjoy the Oscars this year because I didn’t enjoy the movies. I keep trying.

TV is better but still…True Detective can’t do anything but pedophile rings?

Russian Dolls is more farce than character development and I really like Natasha Lyonne but doesn’t it feel like a high concept and not an actual story?

Sex Education is okay and British which gives it the edge but I’m still waiting for that show that speaks to me and so far, nothing.

Let me know what I should be watching.

Also, convince me it’s worth finishing my next novel coz I have to say I’m not sure about the time and energy involved.

I could be refolding clothes and keeping things that give me joy!
